Reds boss Richie Barker said: "Claude has just become a father again and his family home is in Sheffield. He came to me to last week to say that if possible he would like to be with a club nearer his home.
"There was some interest and the offer from Rotherham suited all parties, bearing in mind that Claude still had 18 months left of his contract with us.
