DAVE Adams is hoping a bumper crowd at the Alderbrook tomorrow afternoon will give his players a lift as they bid to kick-start their ailing season.

Crowborough Athletic have not won a league game since November 6 – some 11 games ago – and on Saturday lost 2-1 at bottom club Eastbourne United Association. That win was United's first this season.

Tomorrow afternoon the Crows entertain Ringmer (ko 3pm) in what has been dubbed fans' day – everyone gets in free.

"We need to work hard as a group to get through the run of results we have had recently," Adams said.

"The players need to believe in themselves a bit more. Saturday is the ideal time and place to get three points. We are hoping for a big crowd to say thank you to everyone who has supported us in the last 12 to 24 months. It's not been the easiest of times, but we've got through it thanks to the hard work of a few individuals on the committee. We know Ringmer are always a good side, but there is no better time to get a win."

Saturday's defeat at Eastbourne was arguably Crowborough's low point of the season. They fell one behind early on and things didn't get better after the break. They had Jack Turner and Jon Trotter sent off in the closing stages and while Dave Adams pulled one back, it was too little, too late.

Adams admits he may well have got his tactics wrong on the day.

"In hindsight, I probably got the shape of the side wrong from the outset," he said.

"We should have been more attack-minded than we were. In the last 20-25 minutes we changed it and were all over them. But then we went down to 10 and nine men and were never coming back.

"It was just one of those days when nothing went right. It was the first time looking at the lads in the changing room before the game that they seemed quite nervous.

"Maybe it was the pressure of having to win the game.

We were clear favourites and that is an unusual position for us to be in. In the past couple of years people haven't expected us to get anything."

Adams added: "Confidence is low at the moment. We need to get back to the confidence levels we had before Christmas. We're not on the greatest run, we need to work hard as a group of individuals and as a team."

Crowborough Athletic v Ringmer kicks off at 3pm. Everyone gets in for free.
