East Grinstead man spent seven hours rescuing stranded families from snow
AN EAST Grinstead man took police matters into his own hands by helping to rescue snow-stricken families last week.
Construction worker Spencer Pickstock said he spent seven hours pulling vehicles to safety after they became stranded on the A22 between Wych Cross and Forest Row.
The 31-year-old, of London Road, left work on the afternoon of March 11 then leapt into action and returned again at 7am to release several other vehicles.
In total, he towed 27 cars and four articulated lorries to safety using his Land Rover.

He said: "I was heading home about 4pm and there were just so many people stuck in the snow. A lot of people looked worried and some of them were crying.
"I started to help a couple of cars, but I felt bad about the others, so I kept going back.
"The next day I came across all these jack-knifed lorries on the A22, so I helped them as well.
"The whole time I was there, not a single police car had come, but people were very happy that we got it all moving. I just think it's nice to help people in need."
