A BRAVE young girl could soon be having the life-changing treatment she needs to help her walk unaided thanks to fundraising efforts from staff at a hair salon in Crowborough.

Hair Gallery, of The Broadway, raised £860 for two-year-old Matilda Kelly, from Hartfield, by holding four dressing-up days across October and November 2012.

Salon manager Diana Dobson said: "We had one day where all the staff wore silly hats, another day we wore red, another day was jeans and then bright tights and leggings.

"I think the amount of money we raised is brilliant, I'm really pleased with that.

"We placed sponsor forms at the front desk and all the clients wrote down their donations and put money in. We chose Walking Matilda USA because Matilda and her mother come in to get their hair done. She's a cute little girl."

Courageous Matilda was born with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy.

Parents Dave and Lindsey Kelly are desperately trying to raise the £70,000 needed to take their beloved daughter to Missouri, America, for pioneering treatment before her orthopaedic problems deteriorate further.

The total currently stands at £53,071.

Mr Kelly said: "The operation and subsequent therapies will provide us with hope that Matilda will one day be pain-free and able to walk, hop, skip and jump like other little girls."

Brave Matilda's operation is scheduled for April 18.
