SIX men have been arrested following a raid by the UK Border Agency on a town centre restaurant.

At least seven UKBA officers and five Sussex Police officers entered Charlie Choys restaurant in Crawley Leisure Park at about 5pm. Acting on intelligence that some staff were working illegally, they closed off part of the upstairs restaurant while at least ten people were questioned.

Six men were arrested just over an hour later after officers took fingerprints and checked identification documents of the suspects. One man tried to remove a SIM card from a mobile phone but was stopped by a police officer.

Diners continued to eat and a children's party carried on downstairs as the men were first searched, then led away in a van. The men will be taken to Brook House immigration removal centre at Gatwick.
