A YOUNG couple are selling their possessions and preparing to start a new life freeing Indian children from slavery and prostitution.
Rodney Green, 27, manager at the Jubilee Community Centre in East Grinstead, and his 29-year-old wife Diana, will make the move to Ooty in southern India in the next couple of months.
They will be working for Freedom Firm, a charity dedicated to the liberation of children enslaved in commercial sexual exploitation and their rehabilitation.
"We just feel it's one of those things where we can make a difference," Rodney told the Courier & Observer.
"In India there are 300,000 children enslaved in prostitution today and we want to be a part of what Freedom Firm is doing to end child prostitution in the country.
"Human trafficking is a big topic and we want to do something about it.
"We want to be a part of the solution.
"It's such a grave problem around the world and India is a real source of trafficking.
"It's a vital area and it is rife at the moment."
Rodney, 27, will be working in strategic development and fundraising, while Diana, 29, will help with volunteer coordination and explore speech therapy opportunities.
The couple, from Maypole Road, East Grinstead, will have to adapt to a completely new culture and learn the languages of Hindi and Tamil.
Rodney added: "I know it's going to be a big challenge, but we have both worked in rural and youth development around the world before."
In order to fund their trip, which depends on the success of visa applications, the couple will be selling many of their possessions at Maypole House, in Maypole Road, on Saturday, April 16.
The sale starts from 8am. For more information call 01342 328334 or e-mail greenrp@gmail.com
