A MAN is to face trial accused of dangerous driving in Crawley town centre and being in possession of an offensive weapon.

Richard Chapman, 48, appeared at Crawley Magistrates' Court last Thursday via video link charged with driving a motor vehicle dangerously, affray and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

Chapman, from Horley, is accused of driving a yellow Ford Transit pick-up along The Boulevard on September 29 in a dangerous manner.

He is also accused of being in possession of an axe at the same time and either using or threatening unlawful violence towards another.

No plea was entered at the hearing and Chapman was remanded in custody to next appear at Lewes Crown Court on December 14.
