Promising athlete Charlotte Best has earned her first senior GB vest with selection for the Aviva Great Britain and Northern Ireland Team for the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Doha from March 12-14.

Best, of Crawley AC, who lives at Salfords, has been part of double Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes' Aviva-supported 'On Camp with Kelly' mentoring initiative for talented young middle distance athletes since it began in 2004.

She will compete in the 1500m and was selected following an excellent performance at the Aviva Grand Prix in Birmingham last Saturday.

In her first race of the indoor season Best, 24, finished ninth in the mile in a personal best of 4 minutes 32.29 seconds, which places her ninth on the UK all-time list for the indoor mile.

Her time at 1500m was inside the UKA qualifying time for the Championships of 4:15.00.

Dame Kelly said: "Charlotte has been part of 'On Camp with Kelly' since I started it in 2004. I know that she has benefited enormously and it has been fantastic to be part of her development as a person and an athlete.

"One of the aims of 'On Camp with Kelly' is to help athletes make the transition from junior to senior ranks and Charlotte is proof that if you keep working hard and believing in your yourself it can be done.

" Competing on the international stage against some of the best 1500m runners in the world will be an excellent experience for Charlotte and I am sure that she will learn a lot."
