BEST OF FRIENDS: Victoria Butler is being inspired to run the Brighton Marathon by pal Paul Cook, who suffers from the condition
Victoria Butler is running the Brighton Marathon on April 18 in aid of the Sussex Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus, SASBAH.
The 39-year-old chose to support the charity as her best friend, Paul Cook, suffers from the condition.
She said: "I wanted to choose a charity close to my heart and personal to me.
"When I was in a bike accident Paul was there for me and kept me going through that time."
The pair, who have been friends for 28 years, live just around the corner from each other in Tilgate.
Paul, 43, said: "We have been friends for so long that we see each other more as family.
"I hope to be in Brighton on the day to give Victoria my support as she is raising awareness for a charity which is not so well known.
"It is a great feeling to know a very close friend of mine is taking part to support such a worth charity."
Victoria hopes to raise as much money as possible through sponsorship and has set an initial target of £250.
A spokesman for SASBAH said: "The contributions made through community support events and by fundraisers are crucial in financing the general running of the association."
SASBAH was formed in 1965 and has more than 500 members.
