A LOVING mum has expressed her thanks after a kind Crawley News reader paid the bill for her son's stolen bike.

Kerry Lavington's boy Shea (pictured), 11, lost his prized BMX after thieves struck near his Gossops Green home.

Miss Lavington had only just begun making payments for the bike but after reading the story, an anonymous reader decided to pay the bill for her.

The 36-year-old mum said: "I would love to be able to say thank you in person because there are not many people who would do that.

"It just makes you realise people aren't all bad."

The generous donor has agreed to pay the £136 still owed, leaving Miss Lavington, of Windrush Close, free to focus on the future.

Sergeant Darren Taylor said: " We received a call from a gentleman who had read the story and really felt for the lady and her young son.

"He asked if he could pay the balance off for her.

"He is an unsung hero."

The bike was stolen after Shea left it in the stairwell of his aunt's flat in Gossops Drive at around 7.30pm on August 24.
