Southgate Park defeat the Downsman

Southgate Park Bowls Club made a good start to their week last Monday (July 13) as they won away at the Downsman in the Mid Sussex League.

The 56-44 victory was helped by a top rink triumph of 27-1 by John Hadley, Joan Booth, Peter Goode and Bob Hancock.

The day after, Southgate were back in league action against Handcross but were narrowly defeated 43-39. Tony Nightingale, Joan Booth, Bill Wilde and Brian Lutley secured Park's top rink of 21-9.

An exciting friendly took place on Wednesday at Southgate Park's home ground, with the hosts running out 85-82 winners over Crawley Town. Chas Jones, Margaret Rice, Brian Lutley and Bob Hancock were Southgate's top rink with a 26-15 victory.

The weekend brought bad news for Southgate however as they lost 88-46 at home to West Hoathley on Saturday, before being beaten 74-51 at Newdigate on Sunday. Chas Jones, Sylvia Smith and John Hadley were Southgate's top rink at Newdigate winning 14-11.
