Crawley Town quartet pen new deals

Friday, May 22, 2009, 09:40

Four of Crawley Town's out-of-contract players have taken pay cuts in signing new one-year deals with the Reds, it has been announced.

Midfielders Thomas Pinault, Lewis Killeen and Danny Forrest, and centre-back Adam Quinn have all put pen to paper to stay at the club for next season.

The quartet join Simon Rayner, Jamie Cook, Michael Malcolm, Chris Giles (all already under contract), Sam Rents, Jake Wright and Glenn Wilson (under 24 and signed new deals) in remaining with the Reds for next season.

But Simon Weatherstone has chosen to leave Crawley and join a part-time club in a bid to develop his new soccer schools business. He leaves with Dannie Bulman who signed for Oxford United earlier this week.

Crawley assistant manager Paul Raynor said the economic recession had forced the club to tighten its belt with regard to players' wages, but was pleased to have retained most of the squad from last season.

"We have taken our time and have been very diligent in the process of putting our squad together for the new season," said Raynor.

"We have had a number of meetings with the lads, some of those have been over quickly whilst some have taken time but we believe we have delivered some fantastic signings for this football club. It is never easy for players to accept that they might need to take a pay cut but these are difficult times financially for every club and we have to manage the budget we have been set very carefully.

"Four outstanding players have resigned for Crawley Town on top of the boys that are in place for next season so we are all delighted.

"A number of our players have created a significant amount of interest from fellow Blue Square Premier clubs and that is testament to a number of the class performances these guys produced last season.

"Adam Quinn and Thomas Pinault are top class players and both have turned down better financial offers to stay here. However, it is always nice as a manager or a coach when you see players show some loyalty to you as a management team and of course the football club they have just served."

Crawley are poised to announce new signings next week having agreed terms with three players. It is believed the players include a central midfielder and a striker, and their arrivals are now subject to medicals.
