REDS boss Steve Evans says Chris Giles horrendous injury record was behind the defender's departure from the Broadfield.

The 27-year-old centre-back has signed for Blue Square Premier rivals Salisbury City until the end of the season after his contract with Town was cancelled by mutual consent.

Giles, who joined Crawley in the summer of 2008, has suffered a number of injuries this season restricting him to just a handful of first team opportunities.

"It always seemed to be one injury after another," said Evans.

"The problem was it was always different injuries and we were getting increasingly frustrated.

"Last week he broke down in training again and it looked as though he would be out for two or three weeks so we thought it was a good time to have a chat."

It is believed Giles was keen for a fresh start and Evans was prepared to let the player go to help release additional funds for potential loan signings.

"Our talks were conducted in a professional manor and in the end Chris made it easy for us to let him move on.

"Throughout his time at Crawley he conducted himself properly and he'll always be welcome back at the Broadfield in the future," added Evans.

"We wish him all the best"
