Winfield still dreams of play-offs
The Devils co-owner has prioritised reducing the club's debt this season, a policy that has seen Town sell a number of their best players.
But Winfield thinks manager Steve Evans has assembled a team capable of competing on the pitch and thinks a late surge for promotion is still possible.
He said: "This is now a very crucial period for us if we are to compete for an end of season playoff place. We may lack in squad depth at times but there is enough ability in the squad to give it a real go.
"We all know that if the manager did not have to sell the likes of Pittman, Cook, Fletcher, Wright and the two young lads to Peterborough United, he would have more of a chance to deliver a playoff place but he had no choice in that matter.
"This season has always been about the club being debt free on the last day of the season.
"We are on schedule to achieve that target but it would be fair to say that managing our cash flow recently has been a problem given the lack of home matches because of the weather but, once again, the shareholders injected some funds to ensure it was 'business as normal'."
Five of Crawley's next eight games are scheduled for the Broadfield and Winfield thinks the club's good home form could inspire a surge up the table.
He said: "With six Conference Premier matches out of nine at home then we have every chance to put ourselves right into the playoff mix; I know for sure it will be what we do in those home games that counts.
"We have a superb manager and staff who will drive the lads on and we can all look forward to some very big matches here at the Broadfield Stadium in the near future.
''We have no right to be anywhere near the playoffs this season given the resources Steve Evans has to work with and it is remarkable we are.
"If anyone can drive us up there it's Steve Evans, in my opinion he has done a fantastic job this season."
