£2m flood prevention plans backed

PLANS to relocate the two mains which caused flooding chaos in Blindley Heath have been supported.

Tandridge District Council have backed the £2 million plans to move the pipes, which have left the area flooded twice in six months.

The burst mains left thousands of pounds worth of damage in both May and September this year, with some homes even being flooded in 3ft of water.

Tandridge District Council has backed the plans which were announced last week, and have said they are looking forward to working to prevent it ever happening again.

A council spokeswoman said: "The council welcomes any proposals that will prevent a re-occurrence of the flooding in that area and the stress and inconvenience that caused to residents and businesses.

"We look forward to working with Sutton & East Surrey Water when they approach us about any proposals they have drawn up."
