UPDATED: Biker dies in Lingfield crash

A MOTORCYCLIST was killed after a bike lost control and smashed into a fence.

The victim is believed to be Scott Powell of East Grinstead.

The accident happened at 5.55am yesterday (Sunday), in Racecourse Road, Lingfield, near the junction of St Piers Lane.

Two people were on the back of a blue-and-white off-road Yamaha motorcycle when the collision occurred.

One of the riders sustained fatal injuries. The other was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Both riders live locally, and the next of kin have been informed.

A Surrey Police spokesperson said: "It is believed that the vehicle lost control and collided with fencing.

"We are appealing for anyone who saw a description of the bike driving in the area to contact us."
