A GROUP of singers who were in fine voice around Christmas have donated around £1,000 to a local homeless shelter.

The West Hoathly and Sharpthorne Carol Party visited the Open House, in Crawley, last week to donate the money they had raised over the festive period.

The group spent three weeks before Christmas singing traditional seasonal songs to gather as much funds as possible.

The group, which is based at St Margaret's Church, in West Hoathly, raised more than £2,000, which they split between St Catherine's Hospice and the Open House, both in Crawley.

Marion Jones, who helps at the Open House, said: the group sang at people's houses and pubs to collect the money.

She added: "St Margaret's Church has a lot to do with the Open House and there are two groups who help out twice a month.

"St Catherine's are very local so we do a lot of fundraising for them."
