HEARTFELT floral tributes have been left to a motorcyclist killed in a crash at the weekend.

A man, who has been named locally as Scott Powell of East Grinstead, died after a bike came off the road and hit a fence in Racecourse Road, Lingfield, at around 5.55am on Sunday.

Two riders were on the back of a blue-and-white off-road Yamaha motorcycle when the accident happened.

The other rider was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police believe the Yamaha was the only vehicle involved.

Floral tributes and messages were left at the crash scene, paying tribute to 'Scott' after the incident.

Friends have also been paying their respects on social networking site Facebook.

Gary Reimer said he is "sad that one of his best friends died but happy he knew him".

Kristina Jenner said she "thinks the world is a cruel place when good people die so young".

In a comment left on the Courier and Observer website, Garett Brada, from Seattle, USA, said: "I'm having trouble accepting this. I can't believe this happened. I just spoke with Scott a few days earlier.

"He would always come to the States to party with us, he was my friend.

"I'm so sad."

Lingfield resident Nick Bridgland, of Mill Lane, was woken by the sound of motorbikes driving past his home at 5am on the morning of the crash.

He said: "You never normally here anything come past our house at that time in the morning.

"By the time I looked out of the window they were nowhere to be seen."

A post-mortem and formal ID had not yet taken place as the Courier and Observer went to press.

A Surrey Police spokesperson said: "It is believed that the vehicle lost control and collided with fencing.

"We are appealing for anyone who saw a description of the bike driving in the area to contact us."

Call police on 0845 125 2222 with any information.

Please leave your tributes to Scott below.
