GIRLS in the Worth Division of Guides celebrated other cultures as part of the movement's centenary celebrations.

More than 100 Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, senior section members and 30 leaders gathered at the Guide and Scout Centre in Copthorne for the World Thinking Day celebration, which marks one of the most significant dates in the Guiding calendar.

World Thinking Day on February 21 is an opportunity for the 10 million Guides and Girl Scouts in 145 countries around the world to think about the diversity of the worldwide membership and show appreciation for each other's lives.

About 130 girls took part in a One World One Beat event taking part in a jungle and samba workshop provided by local percussion group Shake, Rattle and Roll.

The children then had a chance to make their own musical instruments and African masks from recycled materials as well as belly dancing, Tai Chi and line dancing.

Gill Crook, leader of 1st Crawley Down Guides, said they found the line dancing hard on their legs.

At the end of the afternoon everyone contributed 50p, raising £58, which will go to World Thinking Day fund supporting eradication of hunger and poverty.
