Success for Lingfield Running Club

LINGFIELD Running Club have found a new star in Alex Standing. In his first race on Sunday in the Lewes Downland 10 mile, he was first home for the club in 79 minutes 12 seconds over a rugged cross country route starting and finishing by the old Lewes Racecourse. He was followed by Rod Chinn (79.5) and Ian Greenaway a minute further back.

Sue Garner, had her usual steady run to finish second aged over-60 woman in 90.41.

Saturday sees the start of the new cross-country season with both men and women in action in their respective divisions of the Surrey Cross Country League.

The men's team, running at Cranford Park, will be depending on a full turn out of at least the 10 runners to make up a full scoring team.

It will be relying on enthusiasm and the failure of rival clubs to bring full teams in the battle for the minor places in Division Four.

The women's team is relatively stronger than the men's finishing an excellent 11th out of 23 teams in Division two last season.

Their first race is at Reigate and they are confident of maintaining last season's form.

All interested in running, including complete beginners, wanting friendly company when training will be warmly welcome at the club which offers training advice and support in a social environment.

Members meet for runs on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7pm. and Saturday mornings at 10am from the Lingfield Victoria Club in the High Street.
