GANGSTERS and molls took over Copthorne last weekend.

The Copthorne Players travelled back to prohibition-era America with their production of Bugsy Malone, with famous songs including Fat Sam's Grand Slam and My Name is Tallulah.

Traditionally the show stars children but the Copthorne Players gave older actors a chance to take the lead roles, some of whom had performed in the junior production as youngsters six years ago.

Director Jeremy Tafler said: "It went tremendously well and people had a good time, it's a fun show. We were very pleased with adults performing rather than children and the gangs being women added to the atmosphere.

"It is nice for the actors from the village to do something for the village.

"We had tables to make it a speakeasy atmosphere, which worked very well."
