Eight fire engines tackle blaze at former Crawley school
Eight fire engines have been tackling a fire at a derelict school in Furnace Green this afternoon (Thursday).
Black smoke was seen pouring from the windows as the blaze tore through the building.

ON THE SCENE: Firefighters tackling the blaze
Firefighters were called to Furnace Drive at 12:47pm and used breathing equipment to contain the blaze which affected 50 per cent of the building.
It took more than two hours to bring the blaze under control, with Furnace Drive being closed in both directions and a police cordon being put up.

Residents were advised to stay indoors and to close their windows.
Officers have also been conducting door-to-door inquiries in Furnace Drive and Loppets Drive.
Nobody has been injured although an ambulance was deployed as a precautionary measure.
