REVIEW: Crawley panto Cinderella is a Christmas treat not to be missed

Dandini and the ugly sisters

Dandini and the ugly sisters

CRAWLEY'S annual pantomime is a riot of sparkle, fun and all the innuendo you can imagine this Christmas.

This year's production tells the story of Cinderella, and provides a laugh-a-minute along the way.

Great for both children and adults, the show gave traditional jokes guaranteed to get young ones giggling, as well as innuendo and sarcasm that only the older audience would understand.

The show centres around poor Cinders, and tells the traditional fairytale of a young girl looking for her true love, but all the time being blighted by her elder ugly sisters.

Cinders, played by Vicky Longley, 20, produced an amazing word perfect performance on the opening night last Saturday (December 12).

But the star of the show was most definitely Dandini, played by camp comedian Julian Clary.

Labelled as one of the country's most recognised performers, he did not disappoint and produced an hilarious display, with more than four costumes changes along the way.

His opening scene saw him flanked by two men dressed up in bondage gear who carried him onto the stage.

Just one of his hilarious one liners was when Prince Charming, played by actor Danny Bayne, asked him if the audience was "common".

When he replied yes, Dandini quipped: "Then this must be Bewbush".

The pantomime was set around Crawley, which only engaged the audience further, with the ugly sisters even coming from next door town East Grinstead.

Also needing a special mention was the loveable Buttons played by Joe Trancini, who soon became an audience favourite with his crazy dance moves and undying love for Cinderella.

All in all, this is a Christmas treat not to be missed.
