The Home Secretary today named Sussex Police as one of the first 18 forces to introduce the "Sarah's Law" scheme in August.
The Child Sex Offender Disclosure scheme provides parents and guardians with a formal channel to make enquiries about people who have access to their children.
Assistant Chief Constable for Sussex Police Olivia Pinkney said: "This will further enhance and support the child safeguarding and public protection procedures currently in place within the county."
The scheme has already been piloted in four forces and it is hoped every police force in England and Wales will operate the scheme by the end of March next year.
