Doctor on child sex and porn charges

A WELL-KNOWN former family doctor at a village practice will appear in court next week accused of a string of child sex offences.

Dr Antony Collis, 58, who was a senior partner at The Belmont Surgery in Wadhurst for 25 years, has been accused of indecently assaulting young girls and possessing child porn.

He is due to appear at Lewes Magistrates' Court on Wednesday charged with 11 counts of indecent assault on girls between the ages of nine and 14.

The indecency charges relate to offences that allegedly took place between 1995 and 2003.

He will also stand accused of multiple charges in relation to the possession of child abuse images.

Collis, of Station Road in the village, joined the surgery in 1978 and worked there until October 2003.

The surgery declined to comment on the charges, while East Sussex Downs and Weald Primary Care Trust, which runs local NHS services, said it would not be commenting at this stage.
