High number of road incidents reported to Sussex Police overnight

Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 09:45

Wet snow could be to blame for nearly 70 road incidents reported to Sussex Police overnight.

The force has advised drivers to allow extra time and road space when out this morning.

Since midnight up to two inches of snow have fallen across the county and it seems in some places to be of a wetter type than in recent days.

This may be responsible for nearly 70 incidents of all types reported to police by 7.45am this morning - mainly collisions or vehicles stuck and blocking roads.

Superintendent Steve Barry said: "If you need to travel this morning, leave it for an hour or two if you can, and see if conditions ease up.

"If you do take to the roads, take it easy, allow extra time for your journey and allow extra space from other vehicles."
