Mum acquitted of daughter's killing

Monday, January 25, 2010, 12:33

A Stonegate woman who injected her desperately ill daughter with a cocktail of drugs has been acquitted of attempted murder.

The jury came to a unanimous verdict on Bridget Gilderdale's charge after around three hours of deliberation this afternoon..

Judge Mr Justice Bean, presiding over the case, described it as a "common sense decision".

The court had heard how the 54-year-old former nurse had discovered her ME stricken daughter, Lynn, 31, in the midst of an overdose attempt in December 2008.

Mrs Gilderdale proceeded to feed her a cocktail of drugs over the next 28 hours.

She had cared for Lynn, who could not sit up, feed herself or speak, for 17 years at their home in Lymdem Close.
