Bewl race is a barrel of laughs

Started last year, the event has grown to include the original challenge of carrying a full 55kg keg on a 13 mile course and a new task of taking an empty barrel a shorter five miles.
Starting from the Greyhound pub in Wadhurst High Street, three teams set off on the full course, with Hendo's Hags returning from their gruelling lap around the reservoir after 3hr 35min to take first place. The empty barrel race saw five teams enter, the Cavaliers claiming victory.
Will Scott, one of the organisers, said: "It went really well. All the teams went round. I was particularly impressed with the boys from the Tonbridge School CCF (Combined Cadet Force) who put in a phenomenal effort and were great ambassadors for their school."
He also gave special mention to The Grannies team who entered the empty barrel race and won the fancy dress.
Each event has been organised to raise money for a specific charity, and £2,000 was collected on the day for Cystic Fibrosis research.
This was helped by an auction of donated gifts including a visit for two to Wembley stadium, a round of golf for four at The Spa golf course in Tunbridge Wells and a fine food hamper valued at £100.
The next event has been scheduled for race May 9. The chosen charity is Help for Heroes.
